lemon fairy cakes with frosted orange topping
from start to plate : 1 hour 10 minutes
good for : treats, kids parties
i know all the cool kids eat cupcakes, but i just love a good fairy cake!
i usually make plain ones with various toppings but today i thought i would try something new and went for these ones from the good food website. i followed the recipe, although instead of lemon topping i used orange....i'm in a bit of a fruity mood!
there are some comments on the website stating that these are too sweet....isn't that the point?! they are sweet but if you are making cakes with any type of frosting/icing, they usually are, plus i'm feeling rather rebellious after my trip to the dentist yesterday! i would say that for the sugar topping that is sprinkled over the icing, 100g of sugar is far too much; i had a lot left over and if i had used it all they would have been overloaded, so 50g would be fine.
i have sent chris a photo of them, so i hope he likes them when he gets home....i'm not on holiday until easter, so he won't be getting anymore baked treats until then!
is it worth waiting for?
