shallot tart tatin with goat's cheese
from start to plate : 1 hour 5/10 minutes
good for : picnics (apparently!)
when looking for a veggie dish for this week's menu, we came across a lovely looking shallot tart tatin with goat's cheese in the ever trusty good food magazine.
as there are just two of us, i halved the recipe and it worked perfectly fine. nothing went wrong or was hard to do, in fact this was one of the easiest things i have ever made....and it looked pretty too!
when it came out of the oven it was all huge and puffy, but as soon as it was turned out on a plate it started to sink....so the rush for the photo was on!photos done, we got down to eating. it was subtle in taste, but still sweet and creamy, soft and crispy....pretty lovely actually! as we were eating we did think that it would be more appropriate as a starter or even better for a picnic rather than a main meal; i suppose this is because of its gentle demeanor, and that for us, maybe it doesn't have enough of a punch to it. having said that....
is it worth waiting for?
the empty plate says it all!
